Zooislander is an all ages fashion festival which supports both creators and performers. The main event is an evening of entertainment with a locally produced runway show in which all garments are created or styled on Pender Island.
This event is first and foremost a celebration of individuality and style. It is a chance for local performers to entertain and wow the crowd with fabulous creations. In turn it also is a chance for some incredibly talented artists to show of their creations in a unique setting. The gulf islands are famous for being filled with artists of all kinds but those who work primarily in the fiber and wearable art sector are often overlooked. Historically this arena has often been a focus of women, and fiber arts often get downgraded to craft rather than fine art. This event and the workshops leading up to it give an opportunity to highlight both local creators who are making artworks throughout the year and to give a performers a venue to showcase the works live.
